Environmental Sustainability
At Halyard, we take our environmental responsibilities seriously. We realize that, whilst we operate in an extractive industry, we have a responsibility to protect, maintain, and restore the environments in which we work.
Halyard has been a carbon-neutral company since 2021 and we are continually working to adopt more efficient practices, lower our carbon footprint, and contribute to sustainability in mining and minerals processing both in our personal capacities and in our projects. We have set ambitious decarbonization targets and we are committed to meeting those goals as well as helping our clients and other project stakeholders develop and adopt more sustainable minerals processing solutions.
In 2023, Halyard invested in a landfill gas capture project in Niagara, ON. This project collects landfill gas that was previously vented directly into the atmosphere. The captured gas is converted into biofuel, and sent via pipeline to a recycled paper mill located near the landfill. The paper mill then combusts the biofuel with natural gas in its steam plant, reducing the GHG intensity of its energy production.
Commitment to People and Community
Safety is part of our DNA. When it comes to ensuring the safety of our people and those around us. Halyard is committed to creating a safe and healthy working environment for all its employees which is free of injury, occupational disease, harassment, violence, and discrimination.
Our people matter to us. We don’t want our team to like their job, we want them to love their job. We are dedicated to creating an environment and support structure where each team member can thrive. It is important to us to create a culture of collaboration, diversity of thought, and respect for others. We understand that the power of a diverse group of skilled people with shared values working together is far stronger than the sum of each person.
Halyard strives to deliver projects that benefit both our clients and the wider project stakeholders without injury or ill-effects on the health and safety of employees, contractors, and the surrounding community.
Halyard recognizes the importance of working with our Clients to reach out to local communities and indigenous-owned businesses at various stages of project development, equipment procurement, construction, and commissioning to ensure that our projects have a positive impact on the communities in which they operate.
